How we research, review, and recommend music gear
Our Mission
Music Gear Specialist exists to help musicians make informed gear decisions. Whether you're buying your first guitar or building a professional home studio, we provide honest, research-based reviews and guides you can trust.
How We Review Gear
Every product review on Music Gear Specialist follows a structured research process:
1. Research-Based Evaluation
We go beyond marketing copy. The Review Desk process includes:
- Published specifications — We cite manufacturer pages and official user-guide tables when we quote gain, wattage, or frequency response
- Owner-report synthesis — We aggregate how players actually use the gear at bedroom, rehearsal, and gig volumes
- Public audio and demos — We link manufacturer or independent clips when they help you hear the product
- Same-price comparisons — We compare products against similar gear in their price range using those sources
2. What We Do Not Claim
We do not use a “Musician Verified” badge, named celebrity reviewers, or fabricated lab scores. There is no touring test fleet behind these pages. If a number appears, it comes from a manufacturer spec, a published measurement, or is labeled as editorial judgment.
3. Rating System
Our ratings are based on a consistent set of criteria relevant to each product category:
- Build Quality — Materials, construction, durability
- Sound Quality — Tone, clarity, versatility
- Playability — Comfort, action, response
- Value for Money — Performance relative to price point
- Features — Included accessories, connectivity, extras

Public bylines are the Music Gear Specialist Review Desk. We do not publish personal operator names on bylines, About, or author schema. Meet the desk on About.
Editorial Independence
Our editorial content is independent of our advertising and affiliate relationships:
- Advertisers and affiliate partners have zero influence over our reviews or ratings
- We do not accept payment for positive reviews
- Products are selected for review based on reader interest, not sponsor requests
- Negative aspects of products are always disclosed, even when the product has an affiliate link
- We regularly feature products that have no affiliate program
